Winterbottom will be playable at this years E for All as part of the Indiecade festival. I was just down there yesterday and Indiecade is showing a large portion of cool independent games right in the front of the show. The show runs from October 3-5 at the LA Convention Center. Go Indies!
Last Week I was pleasantly surprised to see that Winterbottom had been selected for The first annual Sense of Wonder Night. We are stoked to be included.
“The objective of SOWN 2008 is to unleash on the world new games that can give people a “sense of wonder” a feeling that something will change in their world and make them gasp at the moment they lay eyes on the games or hear the game concepts.”
Also awesome The Unfinished Swan a game by Winterbottom Alumn Ian Dallas is in as well. Congrats Ian!
Moreover Kellee Santiago will be at the Tokyo Game Show showing Flower. So it looks like there is going to be USC love all over Japan this October.
I have had the badge up on the tacky Homepage of Trophies for awhile, but Wired has officially announced us in NextFest 2008. Alongside Flower we are the only screen based video game in the festival. NexFest takes place September 27 - October 12, 2008 in Millennium Park, Chicago, and it’s FREE. So if your in the area, we would love for you to come by and play the student version of the game. I will be there with Paul and Kellee Santiago opening weekend.
Many people have asked about the music in Winterbottom so here it is…
We were very lucky to meet David Stanton while in school. The guy basically was a god send. I told him one note… “It should sound like Edward Gorey made a silent Film.” He looked at early concept art and went to town. Here is the music from the student game, enjoy :)
Wow, were honored and grateful to even be considered for these awards as a unsigned student game made in FLASH. I never imagined in a million years that my thesis project would be competing with such heavy hitters as Spore, Prince of Persia, and Mirror’s Edge. I guess it just goes to show how far student and indie games have come. Special Congrats goes to Jonathan Blow for his award, and special thanks to Indiecade for bringing us to E3. I am now semi-officially interning for Indiecade. I needed two more credits to graduate from USC and what better way to do so, then help out with an amazing festival that aims to put independent game developers in the spotlight. E3 was a blast and Indiecade got some good press amongst the big dogs. I feel this was for a couple of reasons. 1. Indie games are awesome. 2. All of E3 took place in one room meaning the convention couldn’t shove us small indie developers in a basement next to the bathrooms (although some us us prefer to work in cold dark areas). 3. The press got bored with the mainstream after day one, and by day two, they were exposed to a plethora of games without space marines or license tie-ins. 4. See #1. For now here is some footage from the 1up show. With interviews with myself and Richard from Ibb and Obb
E3 2008 was a whirlwind for Team Winterbottom and Indiecade. We were able to garner some great press from some major outlets. It was great to be able to meet so many people and have people play the game.
